Selecting Your NVRs
How many NVRs (Network Video Recorders) will you use and where are they located?
If all cameras "home run" back to a single NVR then that is going to need a different network configuration than if you use distributed smaller NVRs with backhaul feeds to a master Central Management System (CMS)
What protocols will the NVRs use to communicate with the cameras?
Unacknowledged protocols such as Unicast, Multicast, RTP/RTSP over UDP perform much better over wireless and wide area network links than do acknowledged protocols like HTTP (using client GET or server PUSH), TFTP, or other proprietary streaming mechinisms
Storage capacity and compression?
Are you going to compress your video on the camera (use H.264) or are you going to bring back less compressed video and transcode the video on your NVR? Not using compression on the cameras can significantly increase your wireless bandwidth requirements.

Over the last 4 days I was an exhibitor at the Defense Services Asia show in Kuala Lumpur. The show was a great success for us and our local partner XV Asia Technology with lots of interest from real customers with real money to spend on all of our products.
Hautespot Networks is pleased to announce our participation at One2One by ISC Campus, an invitation-only Summit for Campus Safety & Security Directors.
